Indigenous Food Past and Present

Explore Indigenous food from both before and after contact through this hands-on workshop using the hearth in the Gibson House historic kitchen. The menu will include a variety of traditional and modern dishes. The workshop is led by historical interpreter Mackenzie Bodnar, lead cook for Gibson House Museumís teas and historically themed dinners. Bodnar is of Indigenous and Irish heritage and, as a Culinary Management and Baking Arts graduate, her main area of focus is 18th and 19th century foodways programming. She has done extensive research into the history of Indigenous foodways in the Great Lakes Regions and is currently completing a degree in Indigenous Studies from Trent University. Gibson House is one of 10 Toronto History Museums where Toronto's past, present and future meet.

Special instructions: Participants will be working around a fire. Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes (no fragrances please)
